Two construction workers were in a 15-foot trench yesterday when, for reasons still unknown, it collapsed on top of them. They did not survive.
Windsor Severance Fire Rescue Fire Chief Kris Kazian told The Coloradoan that workers on the scene were able to feed a PVC pipe to one of the victims and were able to communicate with him for several hours after the collapse. Members of the victim's family showed up and were able to talk to him before he died.
According to The Coloradoan, Windsor's Public Works Department's heavy-duty vacuum truck arrived and removed the soft dirt, but workers had to use shovels and their hands to remove the compact soil. By the time they reached them, both had already died. As of 10pm last night, the bodies had not been recovered.
The name of the victims and the name of the construction company are not known at this time.
