From the Cheyenne Wyoming Chamber Press Release: The United States Air Force (USAF) has selected FE Warren Air Force Base as the first site in the nation to receive a modernized intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system. The Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) is the weapon system replacement for the aging LGM-30 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system (ICBM) for command and control, launch and flight.
“We are humbled and honored to be chosen as the community where this mission will begin. We are extremely proud of the men and women of the USAF that have worked so hard to bring this very important upgrade of the strategic competition mission to fruition," shared Dale Steenbergen, President & CEO of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.
"Our deepest appreciation goes out to Representative Liz Cheney, Senator John Barrasso, Senator Mike Enzi and USAF leadership who have worked diligently to move GBSD forward and ensure that the strategic competition mission is safe, secure, and reliable for years to come,” added Steenbergen.
"The USAF is one of the largest employers in the State of Wyoming and is a vital driver of the local economy," said Kathy Cathcart, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.
"GBSD has the potential to be the largest economic development project in Wyoming’s history and we look forward to making it a success for the Air Force and our business community," continued Cathcart.
