Outfield Frontman Tony Lewis Dead At 62

Tony Lewis, the lead singer and bassist for the The Outfield, has died at 62.

Lewis' management delivered the news via his Facebook Page, but did not disclose Lewis' cause of death.

"It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce that Tony Lewis has unexpectedly passed away. He was a beautiful soul who touched so many lives with his love, his spirit, and his music. He loved his fans dearly and enjoyed every opportunity he had when meeting all of you. Please respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."

Lewis co-founded The Outfield in London in 1984 with drummer Alan Jackman and guitarist John Spinks. Spinks died from cancer in 2014 at age 60.

The band's debut album, Play Deep, was released in late-1985, and went on to be certified triple platinum thanks to the Top 10 single "Your Love" and two other modest hits, "All the Love in the World" and "Everytime You Cry."

The Outfield continued to produce Top 40 hits into the early-'90s. The band's second album, Bangin', included the classic track "Since You've Been Gone." Proceeding records earned the band more airplay with singles like "Voices of Babylon," "For You" and "Closer to Me."

The final Outfield album came in 2011. Lewis released a solo album, Out of the Darkness, in 2018, and supported it with a U.S. tour.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol, their two daughters and three grandchildren.
